Who are the Set-apart People?

When Yahusha our Messiah gave His life for our sins He opened salvation for everyone on the earth. “Whosoever will” were His words. To come under the banner of Yisra’el and the chosen people, the nations of the earth were to obey the Father, forsake their pagan gods and pagan ways, to repent of their sins, be immersed in the Name of Yahusha the Messiah, and receive the gift of the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit). After obeying His instructions He will write the Torah on their hearts and they are thus grafted in to the House of Yisrael and enjoy all the privileges and benefits of knowing their Creator. Yahusha died for all people individually in this world, and as the way out of the Creator’s favour was brought about by disobedience, so the return to His favour is through obedience to His instructions.

Yahuah communicates through His chosen people Yisrael as shown in these scriptures. Here are four witnesses to this fact.

Set-apart nation:

Shemoth (Exodus) 19: 5, 6 “And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples - for the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a reign of priests and a set-apart nation. Those are the words you are to speak to the children of Yisrael”.

Bereshith (Genesis) 11: 1 - 3 Yahuah promises Abram that through his seed he will be a great nation (later to be called Yisrael) through which by the example of Abraham’s descendants, all of the gentile families of the earth will be able to be blessed by his faith. Ref. Galations 3: 8.

Set-apart people:

Moses speaks to the children of Yisrael about Abraham’s seed being blessed -

Debarim (Deut) 4: 5 - 8 “See, I have taught you laws and right rulings, as Yahuah my Elohim commanded me, to do thus in the land which you go to possess. And you shall guard and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these laws, and they (the gentiles) shall say, ‘Only a wise and understanding people is this great nation!’. “For what great nation is there which has Elohim so near to it, as Yahuah our Elohim is to us, whenever we call on Him? And what great nation is there that has such laws and righteous right-rulings like all this Torah which I set before you this day?”

Debarim (Deuteronomy) 7: 6, 7 “For you are a set-apart people to Yahuah your Elohim. Yahuah your Elohim has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a treasured possession above all the peoples on the face of the earth. Yahuah did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more numerous than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples,

8, 9 but because of Yahuah loving you, and because of Him guarding the oath which He swore to your fathers, Yahuah has brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim (Egypt)”. And you shall know that Yahuah your Elohim, He is Elohim, the trustworthy El guarding covenant and kindness for a thousand generations with those who love Him, and those who guard His commandments”.

Debarim 14: 1, 2 “You are the children of Yahuah your Elohim. Do not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead, for you are a set-apart people to Yahuah your Elohim, and Yahuah has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a treasured possession above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth”.

Debarim 26: 18, 19 “And Yahuah has caused you to proclaim today to be His people, a treasured possession, as He has spoken to you, and to guard all His commands, so as to set you high above all nations which He has made, for a praise, and for a name, and for esteem, and for you to be a set-apart people to Yahuah your Elohim, as He has spoken”.

Debarim 28: 9 - 11 “Yahuah does establish you as a set-apart people to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you guard the commands of Yahuah your Elohim and walk in His ways. And all peoples of the earth shall see that the Name of Yahuah is called upon you, and they shall be afraid of you. And Yahuah shall make you to have plenty of what is good, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land of which Yahuah swore to your fathers to give you”.

My People, My Chosen:

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 43: 20, 21 “The beast of the field esteems Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I have given waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen, this people I have formed for Myself, let them relate My praise.”

Yeshayahu 45: 4 - 6 “For the sake of Ya’aqob (Jacob) My servant, and of Yisra’el My chosen, I also call you by your name, I give you a title, though you have not known Me, I am Yahuah, and there is none else - there is no Elohim besides Me, I gird you, though you have not known Me, so that they know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none but Me, I am Yahuah, and there is none else”.

Yeshayahu 65: 9, 19 “And I shall bring forth a seed from Yaaqob, and from Yahudah an heir of My mountains. And My chosen ones shall inherit it, and My servants dwell there. And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the Valley of Akor a place for herds to lie down, for My people who have sought Me”

65: 22 - 24 “They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat. For the days of My people are going to be as the days of a tree, and My chosen ones outlive the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble. For they are the seed of the blessed of Yahuah, and their offspring with them. And it shall be that before they call, I answer. And while they are still speaking I hear”.

Tehillim (Psalms) 89: 3 You said, “I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: ‘I establish your seed forever, And shall build up your throne to all generations’.”

Psalm 147: 19, 20 “Declaring His word to Ya’aqob, His laws and right-rulings to Yisrael. He has not done so with any nation; and they have not known His right-rulings, His Torah!”

Amos 3: 1, 2 Hear this word that Yahuah has spoken against you, O children of Yisrael, against the entire clan which you brought up from the land of Mitsrayim (Egypt) saying, “You alone have I known of all the clans of the earth, therefore I punish you for all your crookednesses”.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 13: 11For as the girdle clings to the loins of a man, so I have caused all the house of Yisrael and all the house of Yahudah to cling to Me to become Mine, for a people and for a name, and for a praise, and for an adorning’, says Yahuah.

1 Dibre haYamim (1 Chron.) 17: 21, 22 King David speaking “And who is like Your people Yisrael, the one nation on the earth whom Elohim went to redeem for Himself as a people; to make for Yourself a great and awesome Name, by driving out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed from Mitsrayim? For You appointed Your people Yisrael to be Your own people forever. And you Yahuah, have become their Elohim.”

1 Kepha (Peter) 2: 9, 10 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, who once were not a people, but now the people of Elohim; who had not obtained compassion, but now obtained compassion.

Psalms 147: 19, 20 He has revealed His word to Ya’acob, His laws and decrees to Yisrael. He has done this for no other nation. They do not know His Torah.

Matthew 15:24 And Yahusha said “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the House of Yisrael”.

It is clear from all of the abovementioned verses from Scripture that there was a “chosen nation” of people set-apart for the purpose of knowing and obeying the Creator. It will also be clear from the following study that there were gentile people set on the earth by the Creator who did not know Him. It was the mission of the Set-apart ones to live by the Torah of Yahuah and follow His instructions, so that eventually the gentile nations would be drawn to His ways and come under His grace.

Those individuals who stand before Yahuah having obeyed His instructions for life as written in the Scripture will be saved and go into eternal life regardless of race, colour, country of origin, or any other difference. The common denominator is obedience to His Word.
