Who are the Gentiles?

Who are the Lost Sheep of the House of Yisrael?

Mattityahu (Matthew) 15: 24 Yahusha said

“I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael (Israel)”

25 - 28 But she (the Canaanite woman) came and worshipped Him saying “Master help me”. And He answering said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs”. But she said “Yea Master, for even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master’s table”. And Yahusha answering, said to her “O woman, your belief is great! Let it be to you as you desire”.

We see from this that the little dogs are a reference to gentiles. The Samaritans come from the Jews returning from captivity in Babylon and are a mixture of Jew and heathen.

Matt 10: 5 - 7 Yahusha sent these twelve out, having commanded them, saying, “Do not go into the way of the gentiles and do not enter a city of the Shomeronites (Samaritans), but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael. And as you go, proclaim, saying, “The reign of the heavens has drawn near”.

So we see that the lost sheep are the lost ten tribes, as Yahudah (Judah) was not lost at that time, as Yahusha was born into the tribe of Yahudah and was there amongst them ministering. There must have been many people of the ten tribes who were left in the promised land at the time of the captivity still living there. It is possible that most of the apostles were descended from them.

The lost sheep are the ones he came to minister to specifically, so there must have been a good number of them in the land at that time for him to be able to do that.

We know that He kept the ministry of the Shomeronites for Himself following his discourse with the woman at the well. The Samaritans believed on Him following this as we see in Yohanan (John) 4: 39 - 42, but soon lapsed into their disbelieving ways.

The apostles were advised by Yahusha to go to the “lost sheep of the House of Yisrael” to tell them that the kingdom of heaven was at hand.

The people there in Yerushalayim and Galillee and the countryside were some of the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael as they were being ruled by Idumeans not of the kingly tribe of Yahudah. The High Priest and Pharisees were also under the rule of the usurping kings. Therefore the people were without a shepherd and were virtually wandering lost in their own country as a flock wanders at random without a shepherd to guide them.  The remainder of the lost tribes had been taken into captivity and were dispersed throughout various other countries.

The descendants of Shem, son of Noah  are not gentiles at all.

These people belong to the righteous line from which came the twelve tribes of Yisrael leading to the birth of the Messiah. However in many bible translations we often see them wrongly described as “gentiles”. Sometimes they are described as “nations” which is a better description of who they are.

As well as the people still living in the promised land after the captivity, many other migrants from the dispersion went further to the north through the Caucasus Mountains and Ukraine to north west Europe, Scandinavia and the British Isles. From these countries some of them have further migrated to such places as North America, Australia and New Zealand. These are all people from the lost ten tribes and are known in scripture under the general heading of “Ephraim”, that being the blessed tribe of Yosef and the one that has the double portion blessing from Yahuah promising much mercy, compassion and deliverance to them in the future.

Hoshea and Yeshayahu and other prophets gave many prophecies concerning Ephraim, the lost ten tribes. These are the people to whom Yahuah gave His instructions or commandments to follow and they should never be described as gentiles.

When the “Good Shepherd” came to His ministry, He knew His sheep and His sheep knew Him. The false leaders did not at any time recognise the “Good Shepherd” who was there amongst them.

There are different categories of gentiles in scripture, and it all comes back to which son of Noah the people descended from, whether Yepheth or Ham. As well as those people there are many who are descended from the earlier pre-Adamic people of the world.

The Descendants of Noah’s son Yepheth

Bereshith (Gen) 10: 1 Now this is the genealogy of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham and Yepheth. And sons were born to them after the flood.

2 The sons of Yepheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Yavan, and Tubal, and Meshek, and Tiras.

3 And the sons of Gomer:  Riphath, Togarmah and Ashkenaz. Many Europeon Jews have descended from Ashkenaz.

4 And the sons of Yavan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim.

5 From these the coastland peoples of the nations were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their clans into their nations.

Gomer, Magog, Tubal and Meshek, the sons of Yepheth are to be found in parts of Russia particularly around the Black Sea area. See also Yehezqel (Ezekiel) chapters 38 and 39.

Historically we have learnt that Tarshish refers to southern Europe such as Greece, Italy and Spain areas. Kittim is a scriptural name for Cyprus and Dodanim refers to the Dodecanese Islands of the Aegean Sea.

There are the gentiles to whom Sha’ul (Paul) preached in Asia, Galatia, Macedonia, Greece and Italy from about the year 40 CE onwards and today make up the Orthodox churches in Greece, Russia, Armenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and others which are mostly national churches within their own countries. Also included is the Roman Catholic church as it was when the faith was blended with paganism and its false gods in the time of Constantine about 325 CE.

Ref. Bereshith (Gen) 10: 5 From the sons of Yepheth the coastland peoples of the nations were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their clans into their nations.

These are the people who Sha’ul was referring to as gentiles in his epistles. They apparently are descended from their forefather Yepheth, son of Noah.

The Descendants of Noah’s son Ham

The descendants of Ham, son of Noah were all dwelling in the area of the Middle East where the flood occurred, around the Chaldea, Babylon and Assyria area (now Iraq, Syria and Arabia) and were descended from Noah and his wife who was the daughter of Enoch.

These people are the descendants of Ham, Ishmael, Esau, Nimrod and Canaan and are to this day set against those who worship Yahuah Elohim in spirit and truth.

Canaan is today the land of Palestine and its name is derived from “Philistines”. Canaan was the firstborn son of Ham and was his cursed son. (See our Article “Who Were the Cushites” for the explanation for this).

Joshua was much later instructed by Yahuah to exterminate the nations which occupied Canaan at the time.

The Muslims in Arab lands today are decended from Ishmael, Esau and Canaan.

Yehezqel (Ezekiel) chapters 25 to 32 deal with the judgment of Yahuah on all of these peoples. They are Tsor (Tyre), Tsidon (Sidon), Mitsrayim (Egypt), Eylam (Persia), Put (Libya), Cush (Assyria) and Pharaoh himself as well as Edom (Esau). These peoples are all situated around the Babylon, Mesopotamia and Assyria areas and are still there today and have never dispersed. Notice that they are almost all, if not completely all, descendants of Ham.

Esau, the Edomites, have infiltrated and mixed with the Jews in the land of Israel and are now known as Idumean Jews. King Herod and his son also named Herod were Idumeans and unrelated to the people over whom they ruled. They were not in the line of King David. When the Messiah was born He was the genuine King in the direct line of King David and is to rule over Yisrael forever. Herod knew he had no genuine claim to the throne and that is why he set out to annihilate all the baby boys up to two years old. Indeed, the real King had been born and was taken to Egypt by Yosef and Mary for safe keeping until Herod had died. The son Herod was the so-called king of the Jews who sat in judgment over the Messiah Yahusha and mockingly placed a kingly robe over His shoulders.

The Pre-Adamic People

These people were also gentiles who were created on the sixth yom (period of time) of creation, Bereshith (Genesis) 1: 26, 27 probably more than 50,000 years ago. They were hunter-gatherers surrounded by lush vegetation and food-bearing trees. To this day the descendants of these people are still hunter-gatherers in many parts of the world, holding nature in high regard and only taking from the earth what they need for survival. They have preserved and valued the order of nature and have not ever destroyed their own environment. These people are the indigenous inhabitants of Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea and the Arctic region.

These people had nothing to do with Adam, who Yahuah formed from the dust of the earth on His seventh day (period of time) of creation during His time of Sabbath rest (Bereshith 2: 7). This means that the forming of Adam was not a “work” of Yahuah as the creation was, but the beginning of His set-apart people, the Hebrew Israelite people. This was an act of grace that started about 6,000 years ago. The indigenous people (gentiles) were created at a very much earlier period of time. It seems that Adam and Eve were chosen by Yahuah from the people of the Mesopotamia area where the garden of Eden was situated to be the first ones who knew Him and were instructed by Him.

If people do not see these truths of the scriptures, then it is impossible to know who the original gentiles were, and still are to this day. They are people with no knowledge of the One true Elohim and have their own man-made gods and idols whom they worship in various pagan ways. It must be noted that any of these people may be grafted into the set-apart people of Yahuah when they learn of, and get to know the Creator and partake of all His benefits and promises.

In the prayer of Solomon following the completion of the building of the temple and prior to the Presence coming down from heaven and filling the House of Yahuah, we read some very interesting verses relating to the subject of the gentiles.

2 Dibre ha Yamim (Chronicles) 6 :32, 33 “Also concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Yisrael, but who comes from a far land for the sake of Your great Name and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this House, then hear from the heavens Your dwelling place, and do according to all which the foreigner calls to You for, so that all the people of the earth know Your Name and fear You, as do Your people Yisrael, and to know that this House which I have built is called by Your Name”.

These gentile people do not seem to be mentioned very often in Scripture after Bereshith (Genesis) 1: 26, 27 except perhaps in some end time prophecies and in the words of Yahusha in Mattityahu (Matt) 24: 14 where He says, “And this Good News of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come”.

This scripture refers to the way of salvation being opened to the “lost sheep of the House of Yisrael” and through them to the descendants of the original gentiles created on Yom 6.

If we do not understand who the different categories of gentiles are in scripture and the fact that creation took place over many millenia of our time, then it is impossible to understand the real meaning of the truth of Yahuah Elohim.

Everything falls into place when we get the timing right!

For the great I AM there is no past, present or future

as He is not bound by the passing of time as we are.

To consider that any of the pre-Adamic people are descended from Noah and that they are part of Yisrael is completely false. However, the way is open to them and anyone else in the world to be saved by the sacrifice of Yahusha and grafted into Yisrael and grow along with the natural branches.

The descendants of Ham are descendants of Noah but they are the disobedient ones who did not share in Yahuah’s blessing. Descendants of Ham were cursed, including the Canaanites, who Yahuah ordered the children of Yisrael to exterminate.

Those individuals who stand before Yahuah having obeyed His instructions for life as written in the Scripture will be saved and go into eternal life regardless of race, colour, country of origin, or any other difference.

The common denominator is OBEDIENCE

to the Instructions of the Creator
