Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23:1 -
The Sabbath, the day of Rest, is of such importance to Yahuah for His people that during the wanderings of the children of Yisrael in the desert He provided manna from heaven for their sustenance for all of the forty years. However, on the sixth day of every week He provided a double portion so that they would not have to toil in picking it up on the seventh day. Not only that, but the sixth day manna kept perfectly for two days, whereas all the other days it only kept well for one day before going rancid.
Observance of the Sabbath certainly is of great importance to Yahuah.
The ten tribes of Yisrael known as Ephraim were extremely disobedient to Yahuah and His commandments. The other two tribes, Yahudah and Binyamin were apparently obedient to His commandments. Later Yahuah used a number of true prophets to prophesy against Ephraim for their disobedience.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 28 is specifically written to Ephraim, the ten tribes from whom are descended the western christian people of today. It is taught in some of the churches, particularly the pentecostals, that when people receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, that they are then living in a time of complete rest, all day every day, and therefore the necessity for observance of the weekly Sabbath has been abolished.
In the following scriptures Yahuah Himself is speaking to those He addressed in Yeshayahu 28:1 “Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim.....”
Verses 7, 8 “And these too have gone astray through wine, and through strong drink wandered about. Priest and prophet have gone astray through strong drink, they are swallowed up by wine, they wander about through strong drink, they go astray in vision, they stumble in right-
He then continues on to them with this prophecy -
Yeshayahu 28:11, 12 For with a stammering lip and foreign tongue He (Yahuah) speaks to this people, to whom He said, "This is the rest, give rest to the weary, and this is the refreshing" But they would not hear.
Note that it is Yahuah who is speaking to the Ephraimites, the ten tribes in a strange language that they could not understand because of their hard-
An example of putting “the refreshing” into practice is the healing of the lame man by Kepha and Yohanan (Peter and John) as recorded in Acts 3. They were going to the temple at the hour of prayer and healed the man crippled from birth, in the name of Yahuah the Messiah.
Take note in Acts 3: 12 that Kepha is addressing the "Men of Yisrael" who are people from all of the 12 tribes, Ephraimites as well as Yahudim (Jews). He also addressed “Men of Yisrael” in Acts 2: 12 after 120 people received the Ruach (Spirit). There were obviously many people from the ten tribes dwelling in Yudea, as well as Yahudim, and these were the people whom Kepha was addressing on both of these occasions. The Yahudim were already observing the Sabbath day so there would have been no reason for Yeshayahu in his prophecy or for Kepha to advise them to keep the Sabbath.
Yahuah is telling these wayward people through the prophecy of Yeshayahu, albeit in a language that they do not understand, that here is the Sabbath, the day of rest from which they would inherit a great blessing if they would listen and obey His instructions. However they are so dull of hearing and hardened of heart that it is impossible for them to comprehend. Yeshayahu says "Who has believed our report"?
Kepha was alluding to these very verses of Yeshayahu 28 in -
Acts of The Apostles 3: 19 "Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master, (blessing instead of cursing, healing instead of ailments)
20, 21 and that He sends Yahuah the Messiah, pre-
22, 23 For Moses truly said to the fathers, "Ýahweh your Elohim shall raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear according to all matters, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every being who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people".
The prophet to whom Moses is referring is of course Yahusha the Messiah and scripture proves beyond doubt that He followed the Torah and Sabbath instructions perfectly according to the will of His Father, as shown in the following verses.
Luke 4: 16 -
The "restoration of all matters" (Acts 3:21) refers to the ten tribes returning to the Torah, the instructions of Yahuah as written in the first five books of scripture, and covered by the Commandments, which include the Sabbath. The “restoration of all matters” was not only for “Old Testament” times, but was for all time, even unto eternity. Ephraim had fallen into idolatry and abandoned the Word of Yahuah and even today the people still love their idols and false prophets more than ever. They are completely bound up with the pagan celebrations, christmas, easter, halloween, without having any knowledge of the true Feasts of Yahuah.
Acts chapter 2 tells us about the faithful men and women who had followed Yahuah during His 70 weeks of earthly ministry. They were gathered in the temple for the keeping of the Feast of Shavuot. This remembrance of the giving of the Torah, the Instructions of Yahuah at Mt Sinai was observed as a Feast Day every year fifty days after the waving of the First Fruits offering during the seven day Passover observance. They were praying and no doubt thinking of their beloved Messiah who had returned to His Father and, before leaving, had told them to "wait in Yerushalayim for the promise of the Father". Suddenly it happened, the mighty rushing wind, the fire just as it had happened at Mt Sinai, only this time instead of the Commandments being written on tablets of stone by the hand of Yahuah Himself, they were written by His hand on the hearts of the believers.
This was not the start of something new. We were taught in christianity that the "old law" was wiped out and replaced by the "church". No! The giving of the Ruach was a continuation of Yahuah's plan for His people after their redemption by the sacrifice of His Son. Yahuah did not change His Word, He changed us with His Spirit.
A continuing event was taking place as prophesied by Yirmeyahu 31: 33 "For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisrael after those days", declares Yahuah: "I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people".
This was the renewal of the Marriage Covenant given by Yahuah to the people at Mount Sinai.
The teaching in the pagan/christian "churches" that almost everything commanded by Yahuah up to that point was abolished, is a gross example of false prophecy and those who perpetrate this lie should read chapter 34 of Yehezqel (Ezekiel).
Whenever any scriptures mention “the Rest” it invariably refers to the Sabbath, so with that in mind we will now look at some interesting scriptures referring to this subject in the epistle written by a Hebrew, probably Barnabah, to the Hebrews. The Hebrews would have already been keeping the weekly Sabbath and meeting in the temple in Yerushalayim or their synagogues in other towns to read and study the Torah scrolls, Prophets and Writings.
Ibrim (Hebrews) 3: 18, 19 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter into His Rest? To those who did not obey! So we see that they were unable to enter in because of unbelief.
4: 1, 2 Therefore since a promise remains of entering into His Rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the Good News was brought to us as well as to them, but the word which they heard did not profit them, not having been mixed with belief in those who heard it.
(Belief and obedience are Yahuah’s requirements for the fulfilment of His Truth).
The writer of Hebrews was referring to these following scriptures -
Yehoshua (Joshua) 23: 1 And it came to be a long time after Yahuah had given Rest to Yisrael and all their enemies round about, that Yehoshua was old, advanced in years.
(And prior to his death he exhorted them)
Verse 6 -
Note that the Yehoshua mentioned here is the leader of the children of Yisrael appointed by Moses when the time came for him to pass on the leadership. Yehoshua is from the tribe of Ephraim. He is an Ephraimite. As Yehoshua and Caleb were the only two to return to Moses with a good report after the scouting trip into the Promised Land they were the only two of their generation to survive the forty years of wandering in the wilderness and lead the younger generations into the Promised Land.
We will now look at some more scriptures concerning the Sabbath day of rest.
Shemoth (Exodus) 31: 12 And Yahuah spoke to Moses saying,
13, 14 "And you, speak to the children of Yisrael, saying, 'My Sabbaths you are to guard by all means, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, Yahuah, am setting you apart. And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-
15, 16 Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-
17 Between Me and the children of Yisrael it is a sign forever. For in six days (Heb. yom, a period of time) Yahuah made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed'."
Yahuah's Sabbath is the sign of the Eternal covenant.
Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 19: 30 "Guard My Sabbaths and reverence My set-
Amos 8: 4 -
Corruption is still alive and well in the world today!
Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 20: 11 -
14, 15 But I acted for My Name's sake, not to profane it before the gentiles, before whose eyes I had brought them out. And I Myself also lifted my hand in an oath to them in the wilderness not to bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey the splendour of all lands,
16, 17 because they rejected My right rulings and did not walk in My laws, and they profaned My Sabbaths. For their heart went after their idols. And My eye pardoned them from destroying them, and I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.
21 But the children rebelled against Me, they did not walk in My laws, and My right rulings they did not guard to do them, which if a man does he shall live by them. They profaned My Sabbaths so I resolved to pour out My wrath on them to complete My displeasure against them in the wilderness.
22, 23 But I held back My hand and acted for My Name's sake, not to profane it before the eyes of the gentiles, before whose eyes I had brought them out. Also I Myself lifted My hand in an oath to those in the wilderness, to scatter them among the gentiles and disperse them throughout the lands,
Yehezqel 22: 26, 27 "Her priests have done violence to My teaching and they profane My set-
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 56: 4 -
The word "eunuchs" cannot refer to physically castrated men, as Yahuah says in Debarim (Deut) 23: 1 "No one wounded, crushed or whose member is cut off does enter the assembly of Yahuah".
Also Yahusha said in -
It is certain that the eunuchs referred to by Yahuah, belong to the last-
Yeshayahu 66: 22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make stand before Me", declares Yahuah, "so your seed and your name shall stand. And it shall be that from New Moon to New Moon and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me", declares Yahuah.
In summary then, what have we found? We have found that every writer of scripture above is telling us the very same thing, which is -
Yahusha the Messiah Himself, the Living Word, repeated the same exhortation as the one quoted above, and before Him throughout the Torah, Prophets and Writings the Sabbath instructions were repeated. Some of those teaching the people about the Sabbath were Moses, Yehoshua, David, Yeshayahu, Yirmeyahu, Yehezqel, Amos, Kepha and Yohanen, and the writer of the Book of Hebrews who we believe was Barnabah.
To place any other interpretation on the Sabbath instructions from Yahuah has to be quite wrong, and doing what scripture is warning against, with very grave consequences. Ephraimites be aware!
How could it be any other way than that?
The Word of Yahuah is the same yesterday, today and forever, even unto eternity.
